Cher has been openly and wholeheartedly supportive of her child, Chaz Bono, in his life journey. Recently, Chaz, now 42, has been on quite a journey. Chaz, who was born as a female with the name Chastity, underwent a female-to-male gender transition from 2008 to 2010 and made a documentary on the topic. This year, he went far as a contestant on "Dancing With the Stars." Cher was in the audience to see Chaz dance to "Rocky" on the show and tweeted her enthusiasm each week, asking her fans to vote Chaz on in the competition.
Cher has another reason to rejoice now! Chaz is engaged to Jennifer Elia, his long-time partner. The two have been together since 2006. According to Yahoo! OMG, Jennifer has been behind Chaz all the way through the gender transition, and she even joined Chaz on a promotional tour for his memoir, "Transition: The Story of How I Became a Man." They have publicly declared their love for each other and have been photographed out and about with each other (and with Cher) quite often, including at the premiere of Cher's latest musical, "Burlesque."
Cher has often expressed her support of Chaz and his relationship with Jennifer, among his other endeavors and passions in life. As Pop Eater reported, Cher recently exclaimed, "I admire my son Chaz's courage for sharing his personal journey. Most important to me is that he is very happy. That's what I care about the most. He has my love and support."
On an episode of "Being Chaz" that is airing this Sunday on OWN, Chaz is shown proposing to Jennifer. As his new fiance, Jennifer confessed to People that she worried about how those who make changes in society often get shot. She exclaimed, "I don't want him to die for a cause." It's clear that being supportive and being oneself often comes at a high price for the cute couple, but they are going strong with the full support of soon-to-be mom-in-law Cher.
